Ambassador Chandrashekhar Dasgupta visited Manila from 17-19 October, 2011 under India-ASEAN Eminent Persons’ Lecture Series. During his stay in Manila, he delivered a lecture on ‘Sustainable Development : Promoting Development to Protect the Environment’ organized by the Foreign Service Institute of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines on 18th October, 2011. His lecture was attended by trainee officers of DFA, several Ambassador and diplomats, distinguished members of the media and the Indian community.
Secretary, Department of Finance, Hon’ble Mr. Cesar V. Purisima visited India, at the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister of India from 16-17 October, 2011 to participate in the Eminent Persons Forum in New Delhi organized by the Government of India. A high-level delegation, led by Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Albert F. Del Rosario, is visiting New Delhi on 15 March, 2011, for the first meeting of the India-Philippines Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation [JCBC] being held at the ministerial level. During his meeting with His Excellency Mr. S. M. Krishna, External Affairs Minister of India, bilateral issues, regional and global issues of common interest, including strengthening cooperation in the multilateral forums such as ASEAN, East Asia Summit and the United Nations, would come up for their review.
Philippines local Oil companies and ethanol producers have been given another year to prepare for the mandated 10-percent blending of ethanol in gasoline as the government decided to postpone its implementation to February 2012. It seems that Philippines is not very firm in its decision to implement this decision. As a recall, on the other side, the Indian government was firm in its decision to “Green” New Delhi, few years ago, despite various concerns and objections. It might be a good move if the Philippine Government could invite Indian investors in this field.
